Save Mart Center Concerts: A Rock Fan's Survival Guide
When the big rock tours come to Fresno, they play the Save Mart Center. Here's how to make the most of arena night — from tickets to the drive home.
Tickets and seating
The arena holds roughly 16,000 in concert configuration. For rock shows, the floor is general admission or reserved depending on the tour — check before buying. The lower bowl sideline sections (roughly 104–107 and 116–119) are the sweet spot for sound and sightline. The upper bowl is steep, which keeps views decent even from the cheap seats; bring binoculars-level expectations, not disappointment.
Getting there (and out)
- Arrive early. Lots open hours before doors; the post-show exit is the real bottleneck. A pre-show dinner nearby beats sitting in the exit queue.
- Know your lot. Remember where you parked — after an encore, every row looks identical.
- Rideshare works but surges hard after big shows; walking a block or two away from the main lots before requesting helps.
Inside
Security is standard arena procedure: small bags, metal detectors, no professional cameras. Concessions are arena-priced — eat before if you're watching the budget. Merch lines are shortest right after doors and during the opener; if the tour shirt matters, go early.
Sound
For a multi-purpose arena, the room treats rock well. Louder bands benefit from being on the floor or low bowl; the very top rows can get boomy on bass-heavy mixes. Earplugs aren't uncool — tinnitus is. Modern high-fidelity plugs keep the mix intact while saving your hearing for the next show.
Make a night of it
The campus district around the arena has plenty of pre-show food and drink. Build in time: doors, opener and headliner make even a "quick" show a four-hour commitment. Worth it — there's nothing like a Fresno crowd when a big riff hits.
